SAd35z Protects Overhead Transmission Lines in Malaysia
A multiple-stage and long-term project is coming to an end in Malaysia. It started in 2014 when the biggest network company of the country called Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) showed its interest to Streamer solutions. Asian partners required lightning protection for networks with a voltage of 33 kV. Development and testing of the new product in the range – SAd35z – was going on at that time in Saint-Petersburg.
TNB treats lightning protection very seriously in terms of technical and scientific aspects. Periods of thunderstorm activity in the Southeast Asia are so long that costs for different lightning location systems and thorough study of the new devices appearing on the market are more than worthy.
Trial production operation will be performed on the entire overhead line about 9 kilometers long, rather than on several supports. This line has already been provided with 260 SAd35z devices. It is notable that peak of the new season of thunderstorm activity will start in October or November, that’s why the first test results will be available pretty soon. Taking into account that the number of thunderstorms in Malaysia is many times as large as in Russia or European countries, the estimate of Streamer solutions efficiency will be absolutely evident. It is expected that these data will contribute to the further promotion of the company’s products in countries of Southeast Asia.
